Marriott Bed Bugs
Marriott is a multinational hospitality company that manages and franchises several hotel brands.
(and related facilities such as resorts, conference venues, etc.)
They are by far the biggest hotel chain in the world.
With 30 brands…
Over 7,000 properties…
in 100 countries around the world.
This hotel has a long standing reputation for quality, sophistication, and luxury.
That being said…
This hospitality giant does have its problems.
Marriott hotels (just like other hospitality facilities).
Are not immune to bed bug infestations.
It is still possible to become victim of bed bugs when staying at any of the Marriott hotel chains.
Some of which include:
- The Ritz Carlton
- W Hotels
- Gaylord Hotels
- Westin Hotels & Resorts
It doesn’t make a difference to the bed bug whether the room is clean, expensive, or has a steam shower…
These insects are resilient and can be present at any time.
Can You Get Bed Bugs in Marriott Hotels?
Understandably it doesn’t make a difference at which of the chains you’re staying.
If you come across bed bugs you should check the rest of the room and take photographs where necessary.
Bed Bugs can be seen by the naked eye.
(They’re not that small)
And if an infestation is severe..
You should be able to find adult bugs, larvae, or eggs.
You may also come across bed bug droppings that look like sea flecks or rust-colored waste spread randomly around the room.
Marriott Bed Bug Lawsuit
If you suspect bed bugs in your hotel it is important to take the following actions:
Gather Photographic Evidence:
Take pictures of all infested areas with your cell phone.
Also make sure to take pictures of your bites.
(click here for more information on what bed bug bites look like).
As well as any adverse skin reactions that occured as a result of bed bugs.
Locate the insects within the mattress/bedding and take a video of the bugs crawling around.
(Try and get the hotel room background in the shot).
Report The Bed Bugs:
Locate the nearest high-ranking hotel employee.
Make sure to get their full name and contact information when you discuss this claim.
Don’t expect that these bugs will stay in one place at any given time because they tend to crawl and hide.
(similar to ants)
Seek Medical Attention:
If you have sustained any injuries related to bed bugs make sure to treat them immediately.
Go get professional medical attention if necessary.
When treated be sure to do a thorough inspection of your entire body…
To ensure all affected areas are properly addressed.
Then make sure to keep all invoices and receipts from your treatment so that you can claim this evidence as apart of your potential lawsuit.
Leave The Infested Room:
You should also switch hotel rooms immediately…
Or consider leaving the Marriott location entirely.
No need to risk anything if there are potentially other rooms that are affected.
Properly store away all belongings to ensure these traveling creatures don’t hitch a ride with you.
DO NOT put your clothes or bags on any of the following:
- on the carpet
- upholstered chairs
You should also keep your suitcase off the floor.
(Use a metal suitcase rack if applicable.)

Marriott Bed Bug Compensation

Proving hotel negligence involve either of the following.

Marriott Bed Bug Policy & Protocol
In most states there is some regulation surrounding the duty of property owners to maintain a safe and healthy environment for their guests.
According to Marriott’s Guide for Business Conduct
Page 37 under Health, Safety, and Security
Marriott strives to protect the health, safety, and personal security of those who visit our properties and who work for us.
Providing a healthy, safe, and secure environment supports our mission to provide an excellent experience for our guests and to protect our associates from harm.
Though it’s not mentioned specifically..
You can assume harm from pests such as bed bugs fall under this policy.
Therefore, this hotel giant has a duty to protect its guests from harm and it could provide justice to those who are unlucky enough to experience bed bugs.
Why are Bed Bugs on the Rise?
With the increase in traveling in the past decade..
Bed bugs have made an impressive comeback.
After a day of travel many of us deposit our luggage in the room and flop on the bed.
Once in a hotel…
Bed bugs are able to spread from room to room with ease.
(They can crawl through walls)
The statistics here are somewhat scary as bed bugs are getting harder and harder to kill.
According to a 2018 survey hotels are the third most popular place pest removal companies encounter bed bug infestations.
The CDC reports that bed bugs are even able to spread to 5-star hotels..
Meaning even some of Marriott’s most expensive brands aren’t immune.
According to the National Pest Management Association…
Bed bugs can ingest 7 to 10 times their body weight in blood.
Equivalent to a human being drinking 120 gallons of liquid at once.
The biggest reason for this is bed bugs can survive up to a year without eating a thing…
which is why they’re incredibly hard to control.
They also have developed stronger armor around their exterior which is becoming resistant to today’s common insecticides.
