Woman Sues Farmington Motel Following Bed Bug Bites

A Maryland woman is suing a Farmington, New Mexico motel after she received multiple bites when she stayed at the motel this past summer.

Valerie Burrell stayed at the Farmington Inn from June 13th to June 15th. On the first night, she woke up to an itching sensation on her right thigh…

And immediately discovered 2 bed bug bites.

Burrell also found a bed bug on the bed sheets and took a photo of it, then showed the picture to hotel management. Management did not respond to Burrell’s complaint.

The night of June 14th, Valerie sustained more bug bites all across her upper torso. She woke up on June 15th feeling ill, and left the motel shortly after.

In August, Burrell officially filed a lawsuit against C&R Investment Inc., the parent company of the Farmington Inn. By October, C&R management still had not offered a response to the lawsuit, nor put up any legal defense.

This absence led Valerie to file a motion for default judgment on October 5th. Since Farmington Inn made no response to any court filings against them, Burrell claims that the court should rule in favor of her complaint.

The details of this case were reported by The Farmington Daily Times on October 26th, 2021.
