Florida Couple Sues Myrtle Beach Hotel For Bed Bugs

In September 2021, Jacob and Nicole Makins spent 4 nights at the South Bay Inn & Suites hotel in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. During their stay, they were horrified to wake up covered in bed bug bites.

It’s believed that bed bugs had infested the room, hiding in remote places like under the mattress and in the carpeting. The Makins family also claims that bed bugs crept into their luggage and infested their home.

The couple filed a lawsuit against South Bay Inn on December 9th. They are accusing the hotel of failing to properly treat the room prior to the Makins’ arrival, and that hotel management should have been notified of bed bugs prior to renting out the room.

South Bay Inn is also accused of unfair trade practices, as they falsely advertised the condition of the room prior to Jacob and Nicole’s arrival.

Jacob and Nicole are seeking a litany of damages, as well as expecting the hotel to cover their court costs.

South Bay Inn did not offer comment on the lawsuit.

The details of this case were reported by WBTW News 13 on December 20th, 2021.
